Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, partner families (homeowners) invest up to 500 hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses.
Additionally, we have a “ReStore,” a home improvement store and donation center, attached to our office. This helps raise money for Siouxland Habitat and keeps good, reusable materials in use. The ReStore has discounted prices on new and gently used building materials, furniture, home accessories and appliances available to the public! For more information about our ReStore click here.
